Liverpool are looking at 22-year-old Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer as a potential replacement for Dejan Lovren.
The Reds are without a recognised fourth-choice centre-back, with the likes of Billy Koumetio and Sepp van den Berg expected to stay with the U23s.
Ajer is said to be keen on a move away from the Scottish champions, with efforts for a potential transfer ramping up after the international break.
The 6’5″ defender is a currently on international duty with Norway, as they face Austria and Northern Ireland in the next seven days.
Football Insider say contacts at Celtic are worried Ajer may force an exit, after Neil Lennon publicly blasted some of his players’ attitude.
The same report claims the Hoops are looking at Preston’s Ben Davies as a replacement, after signing Shane Duffy on loan from Brighton.
Sources close to Celtic say Liverpool have shown interest in Ajer and could make a move for the centre-half this summer, we can confirm.
With Joel Matip wrestling Joe Gomez for a regular place alongside Virgil van Dijk, the Celtic star would have to be content with a place on the bench.
Should Jurgen Klopp make a move, and if Ajer has the ambition, signing for Liverpool could be a huge step in his very promising career.
