Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane are already Liverpool legends in the eyes of most fans, but they could be about to eclipse a man close to the hearts of all supporters.
John Barnes, one of the best forwards to have ever played for the Reds, scored 108 times for the reigning Premier League champions during his years at Anfield.
Salah (94) is close to leapfrogging the former England international in the all-time top-scorer rankings, with just 14 goals separating the pair.
The Egyptian has managed 44, 27 and 23 goals respectively in each of the past three seasons he’s played for Liverpool; he’s nailed-on to overtake Barnes this year.
Mane isn’t too far off either, but it’ll require a bit of oomph from the Senegal icon, who has found the back of the next a total of 81 times for the Reds so far.
Aside from his debut year, the forward has hit at least 20 goals per season at Liverpool. He scored 26 in 2018/19, so 28 isn’t outside the realms of possibility for 2020/21.
Should the duo overtake someone as renowned as Barnes in the all-time top-scorer rankings, it’ll further cement their status as Liverpool legends – if that’s even still a question for some.
