Liverpool are reportedly interested in Sampdoria’s Omar Colley, with Jurgen Klopp keen on signing a central defender before the transfer window shuts.
That’s according to SampNews24, who claim the 6’2″ Gambian international could be available for as little as £10.8million this summer.
In a report earlier this month, the ever-reliable James Pearce said the Reds will look to sign a central defender if funds can be freed up.
At the age of 27, Colley isn’t going to be a signing for the future – but his experience would be valuable to the Liverpool dressing room.
The centre-half would arrive at Anfield initially as fourth-choice, inheriting the role occupied by Dejan Lovren last season.
Joel Matip continually struggles with injuries and Joe Gomez isn’t made of steel either, so strength in depth is important.
Fabinho has shown he’s capable of filling in alongside Virgil van Dijk before, but this shouldn’t be seen as a long-term option.
