After Liverpool’s 7-2 win over Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup and 3-1 victory against Arsenal in the Premier League, the Reds are in good form for Thursday night’s clash with the Gunners for the second time in four days.
One thing is for sure, we will not see an appearance from Jordan Henderson, Joel Matip or Kostas Tsimikas in the encounter due to injuries. With Andy Robertson likely to get a rest, it is possible that James Milner will fill in the role as left-back.
The captain may be fit again soon, though – speaking to Liverpoolfc.com, assistant manager Pep Lijnders said: “Jordan, we will reevaluate on Friday after this game to see if he can be ready for Aston Villa.”
After Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones’ brilliant performances, scoring five goals between them in the Lincoln game, the Dutchman lauded the trio – and went as far as to say our No.17 is one of the most ‘offensive’ midfielders we have.
“[Jones is] the type we really like. So much bravery, courage, self-confidence, but with a constant focus to learn. He’s probably one the most offensive midfielder we have. Always first to make a surprise move from midfield, always first to shoot,” he said.
Thursday night’s clash at Anfield should see another successful result against Arsenal as supporters will be anticipating an exciting mix of youth and seniority in the team selection.
